Hachette staff raise over £10,000 for charities, and set up 200 Book Nooks across the UK
On 9 July 2026, we brought together our staff, charities, and communities around a shared goal: encouraging more children to discover the joy of reading for pleasure and helping families make reading together part of everyday life.
Over 1,000 Hachette employees stepped away from their desks to lead a global day of Raising Readers. Staff took on the Hachette 200 Challenge, hosting sponsored walks, a 65-mile bike ride from Didcot to London and a range of other fundraising activities, which raised over £10,000 for the National Literacy Trust and The Reading Agency.
Teams across our business also set up 200 Book Nooks across the UK, getting over 20,000 books into communities who need them most. Staff transformed community spaces across the country into bespoke reading environments. Each Book Nook features dedicated seating and shelving supplied by Peters, alongside a curated library of 100 new titles donated by our division, Hachette Children’s Group. The Hachette-funded book nooks have been placed in community spaces that currently lack access to books, including Women’s shelters, Refugee centres, mosques, doctors’ surgeries, children’s hospital wards, churches, and even at Michael Morpurgo’s Devon farm, in partnership with his charity, Farms for City Children.
